Cable TV arrived to Portugal in the first half of the 90s. It allowed us for a freedom of choice like satellite dishes beforehand.
Initially the number of channels in Portuguese was very small, very reduced. As soon as they started to potentially explore our country as a potential market, they successfully did, allowing a reduction in the number of channels in foreign languages.
Eventually cable TV has suffered loads of changes, from old channels departing, some of them ending due to low ratings, to new channels entering, some of them being good and others being bad.
Nowadays I think that we are being restricted. NOS has kids channels in foreign languages other than English but they reject English. 2-3 channels in English should make a wall for both Tiji and Super RTL, but no.
